PLANET REHAB
An Oasis in San Dimas
Planet Rehab was an animal sanctuary in San Dimas, California. The non-profit organization had a dream team of volunteers made up of students and community members. The organization is closed now and the founders have moved to Panama, but their legacy lives on through the volunteers who grew up with them.

GARY MITCHELL
Founder, Planet Rehab
Gary Mitchell is the founder of Planet Rehab. Home to more than 350 animals, many of which are rescues. Injured and displaced native birds and animals are rehabilitated by the volunteers at the sanctuary and released back into their natural ecosystems.
AUTUMN SLATER
Volunteer, Planet Rehab
Autumn's interest in ecology led her to volunteer at Planet Rehab when she was in high school. She learned about geography and issues that affect the earth's ecosystems from taking care of several species of birds at the sanctuary. Later, she used her experience at Planet Rehab as the subject of her college admission essay to Humboldt State University. When she presented to the committee in person, she spoke with knowledge and confidence and was accepted to their undergraduate program.
AUSTIN RAPP
Volunteer, Planet Rehab
Austin is vegan. He says that a vegan diet is not only healthy, it allows him to feel good about his connection to animals and the planet. Planet Rehab hosts an annual International Food Festival. It featuring vegan and vegetarian cuisine from around the world. The purpose of the festival is to show how much variety we can find in our diets without eating meat.
SALLY AIKEN
Volunteer, Planet Rehab
Sally is an important resource to Planet Rehab. Her good reputation and longevity in the San Dimas community position her to help the organization and recruit potential board members and funders. Sally enjoys craft nights with other volunteers, those evening sessions are designed to bond the volunteers who make a variety of things including earrings from the plumes of the pheasants and peacocks in the sanctuary. Everything is DIYÂ and eco-friendly.
BRANDON MUÑOZ

Brandon is one of several committed volunteers that help Planet Rehab to thrive. This young college student says he likes knowing that he can do something positive for the environment.
